VegMed is a unique international scientific conference, bringing whole food, plant-based nutrition into mainstream medicine. In 2020 it is conducted by a consortium of Charité Medical University Outpatient Department for Integrative Medicine, the Physicians Association for Nutrition (PAN) and ProVeg. Friendly support is provided by Reformhaus Fachakademie and our event partner MES (medical event solutions).
VegMed is aimed at all health professionals, especially physicians, medical students and scientists as well as nutritionists and students of related disciplines. The third day is open to the general public, for everybody with an interest in learning about plant-based nutrition and health from internationally renowned speakers.
VegMed 2020 will focus on various main topics.
The current research on the prevention and therapy of various diseases through plant-based nutrition and the corresponding mechanisms of nutrition (for example via the microbiome, epigenetics, inflammation and oxidative stress) will form the basis. Another central topic will be the implementation of plant-based approaches within medicine and health policy: how are these approaches best integrated in the daily practice of health professionals, which tools and programmes work best for patients and which challenges within (healthcare) politics need to be mastered to multiply and improve the overall options?
A very special focus in 2020 will be “nutrition, climate change and health”: How does climate change affect individual and global health? What impact do our eating patterns have on climate change and our ecosystems? And what strategies and practical approaches are there for health professionals and the health care system to counter climate change?
We are looking forward to hosting an event full of lively and thorough discussion as well as gaining invaluable information and skills to take home.
