Niklas Oppenrieder is a physician in his pediatric residency, living and working in Aschaffenburg, Germany. Inspired by the 2016 VegMed workshop given by Dr. Neal Barnard (www.pcrm.org), Dr. David Stenholtz (www.läkareforframtiden.se) and Dr. Tanja Kalchenko (www.hepla.no) on the power of medical organizations focusing on evidence-based nutrition, he is now a cofounder of the Physicians Association for Nutrition (PAN International, www.pan-int.org).
The organization aims to raise awareness among health professionals, the general public, and policymakers about the role of nutrition in promoting good health and preventing and treating disease, while also providing tools for making positive dietary changes.
PAN International will encourage the growth of national PAN branches in countries around the world by providing scientific content and technical, organizational and strategic support. A key aspect will be creating synergies with existing like-minded initiatives as well as medical and nutritional experts worldwide. PAN International will launch in April 2018.
In this workshop we introduce the newly established medical organization “Physicians Association for Nutrition” (PAN) and present it’s structure, current projects and long term goals. A particularly important element of this workshop is an open discussion to explore the most effective and longest lasting ways of advancing evidence-based nutrition in the fields of medicine and politics and in the general public. We will also be happy to inform you about the various opportunities for cooperating with PAN.
